Mrs. Harvey Robb

Mrs. Rachel Robb, wife of Harvey Robb, of Bonaparte, died Friday morning, Nov. 9. She had been an invalid several years, and for more than a year had been confined to her bed. Mrs. Robb was the sister of Thos. Christy of Bonaparte, and the daughter of James Christy, who died in Lick Creek township some years ago. She was born in Harrison county, Ohio, Sept 8, 1824. She came with her parents to Van Buren county, Iowa in 1842
and was married to Mr. Robb Aug. 31, 1843. Most of her mature years were spent on their farm one and a half miles south of Vernon, where she and her husband accumulated a large property, and raised their children to the years of majority, and helped them all to good homes of their own. In 1875 Mr. and Mrs. Robb removed to Chicago, where he engaged in the live stock commission business at the Union stock yards. In 1876 they returned to Iowa and settled at Bonaparte, where they have since resided. In 1848 Mrs. Robb united with the congregational church at Bentonsport, of which she remained a member until 1877 when she united with the Presbyterian church at Bonaparte and remained a consistent and faithful member thereof until her death. Her funeral took place at the Presbyterian church, and was the largest ever known in Bonaparte. The church was filled and many had to stand outside. The funeral discourse was delivered by Rev. James Welch, assisted by Rev. Henneigh. Her remains were buried on the old homestead in Henry township, and there were as many at the grave as there were at the funeral. Friends and neighbors came from far and near to testify their respect, and esteem for the departed. Mrs. Robb was kind hearted and sympathetic, and her acts of kindness and benevolence were many. She was a most affectionate and devoted wife and mother, and an intelligent and noble woman. Peace and rest to her ashes, and happiness and joy eternal to her disenthralled spirit.
