Merle Mounce

Arthur Merle Mounce, son of Arthur H. and Ida May Cross Mounce was born January 20, 1906 at Humansville, Mo. and passed away Sunday, August 1, 1976 at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Mo. at the age of 70 years, 6 months and 11 days.

He married Georgia Margaret Gaston on August 27, 1927 at Milton, Iowa. To this union, two children, Carroll and Millie May, were born. Most of their married life was spent farming around Keosauqua and Bonaprate, Iowa until he retired nine years ago and moved to Memphis, Mo.

He is survived by his wife Georgia, a son Carroll William Mounce and daughter-in-law, Sally Mounce of Columbia, S.C.; a daughter, Mrs. Millie May Elliott of Downing, Mo.; six grandchildren, Todd and Julie Mounce of Columbia, S.C.; Pvt. Michael L. Elliott of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; Pvt. Rodney D. Elliott of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.,; Scott and Wanda Elliott of Downing, Mo.; a brother, Charles Roy Mounce of Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii; and a sister Lona Margarite Bond of Marion,Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, James Rex Mounce of Seattle, Washington.

When a young man he accepted "Jesus Christ" as his Saviour and became a member of Center Chapel Methodist Church near Keosauqua, Iowa.

He was a faithful and loving husband and father and enjoyed his grandchildren very much. He will be sadly missed by his loved ones and friends.

Funeral services were held at Center Chapel United Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 4, 1976 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Elmer Revelle of Memphis, Mo. officiating. Interment was in the Center Chapel Cemetery.
