Mamie Gaston Madden

Mamie Gaston Madden, daughter of James and Rosa McIntire Gaston, was born March 16, 1873 near Mt. Sterling, Ia., and passed away April 3, 1956 at the Harlan Nursing home in Bonaparte at the age of 85 years, after five years of failing health.

In 1889 she was united in marriage to Charlie Madden, and they lived on a farm near Mt. Sterling until his death Feb. 4, 1943. To this union were born three children: Stanley, Leon and Myrtle.

At an early age she united with the Mt. Sterling Christian Church, and faithfully attended the services in Mt. Sterling as long as her health permitted.

Surviving are a son, Stanley Madden of Fairfield; a brother, Clyde Gaston of near Mt. Sterling; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Leon Madden; a daughter, Myrtle Daggs; a brother William Gaston; and a sister, Elizabeth Gaston Tharp.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 5, 1956, at the Center Chapel Methodist Church near Keosauqua, with the Rev. Harold Harryman of Milton officiating, assisted by the Rev. John Nye of Keosauqua. Interment was at Center Chapel cemetery.
