OBITUARY

James Buchanan Baugher was born March 27, 1857, in Harrisburg township, Van Buren county, Iowa; was reared to manhood, resided and died Thursday evening, April 15, 1909, at 7 o'clock upon the farm on which he was born, being 52 years and 19 days of age, his death being caused by pneumonia.

On the morning of the 5th of April James was found by his brother Thomas in bed in an unconscious condition, from which condition he was aroused during the afternoon of the same day, but was never able to be about until death, growing steadily worse to the last.

He was the son of John and Rosanna (Schriver) Baugher, who were among the early pioneers of the county, and leave to mourn his loss one sister, Mrs. Margaret Tulley, who lives near the old home, Geo. W. Baugher of Anson, Mo., and Thomas J. at home, besides numerous other relatives and a multitude of friends. The funeral was from his late residence Sunday, April 18, 1909, in charge of Undertaker W. C. Page, the choir from Bonaparte rendering the vocal and instrumental music and Rev. A. L. Williamson preaching the funeral service, interment being in the Vale cemetery beside his father and mother. The pallbearers were Henry Moore, Henry Wallingford, Will Pfeifer, Geo. D. Knauff, Geo. L. Downing and Byron Moore, all near neighbors of Mr. Baugher.

James and Thomas were twins and being the youngest children succeeded the father in the ownership of the farm, and James continued to reside with his brother until his demise.

The writer and Jim, as his friends and classmates called him, became acquainted when mere boys at school, and have lived as neighbors ever since, a period of 42 years, and were the best of friends at all times.

Jim was a friend to all and none knew him but to love him. He being a studious, industrious, honest man, a true gentleman in every sense of the word his worth being beyond compute.

Jim was never identified with any secret organization, always preferring to be a free man. Although not a member of any church Jim was a thorough Christian and was at all times ready to meet his Savior.
