OBITUARY

Jacob H. Young died at the home of his daughter Mrs. W. A. Scherfe in Ft. Madison Iowa, Wednesday at 9:30 a. m., the 12, after a short illness, aged 75 yrs. 8 months and 11 days. The remains were brought to Cantril Friday morning the 14th., and the funeral was from the residence of Mr. William Evans, conducted by Rev. F. A. Gageby of Ft. Madison. He was buried beside his first wife in the Cantril Maple Grove Cemetery.

Jacob Young was born in New Harbor, New York, from there in youth he went to Bellfountain Ohio, in 1859 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary A. McBeth, from there they moved to Illinois, and in 1869 they came to Iowa and settled at Troy, Davis county. About 1873 he came to Cantril and conducted a harness shop. His wife died at Cantril in 1877, after her death he moved to Wyconda, Mo., Milton and Troy, the latter place having been his home for the last 24 years. He had gone to Ft. Madison with his daughter, Cora to spend the winter. By his first marriage there were five children two died in infancy, one son Harry lives at Nampa Idaho, and two daughters Cora and Mrs. Sherfe both were present at the funeral. In 1888 he married Miss Jane Evans, who died about three years ago.

In the Civil war he was a member of Co., I, 1932, Ohio, Inf.

Jacob Young was a model citizen, honest and upright, no one ever had occasion to speak ill of him. He was a christain [sic] man.

Mr. Young's first wife was a sister of John McBeth who died about three years ago, and also a cousin of Capt. Wm., McBeth of Keosauqua, who with his son Robert attended the funeral.

Several of his old neighbors and relatives from Troy attended the funeral.
