Sarah Jane Thrush was born in Ohio Feb. 24,1839 and died at her home in Bonaparte May 2,1927, aged 88 years, 3 months and 9 days. She came with her parents when she was a small girl settling in Lee County and has resided in either Lee or Van Buren County ever since. She was first united in marriage to William Parsons to which this union was born five children, Charles, Mary, Samuel, Cora Belle and Albert. Of the five only Albert remains. The other four along with the husband preceded her in death. She was married a second time March 9,1882 to T. D. Spurgeon and at this time took up her residence in Bonaparte. Mr.Spurgeon died about 26 years ago. Her last illness was of short duration. She suffered a stroke of paralysis about a week before her death. In the passing of Mrs. Spurgeon there is another removed link that binds this generation to the heroic, faithful group of people, the pioneers who conquered the wilderness, broke up the prairies, built roads, and established schools, and churches. What a debt of gratitude we owe them. Mrs. Spurgeon was a kindly neighbor and friend, a loving mother. She leaves to mourn her departure one son, nine grandchildren and twenty great-greatgrandchildren. Funeral services were held May 4.
