Mary J. Saar
Mary J. Saar, daughter of Robert and Ida Richards Dyer, was born November 10, 1900 in Pleasantville, Iowa and died the morning of Wednesday, Sept.20, 1989 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, at the age of 88.
She grew up and graduated from high school at Pleasantville and attended Iowa State College in Ames.
She married Hollis S. Saar March 5, 1922 at Pleasantville. They lived two years in Nebraska and moved to Cantril in 1924. Mr. Saar died in 1981.
Surviving are four daughters, Jean Whitcanack, Donnellson; Jane Annis, Bristol Conn.; Dorothy Launders, Las Vegas, Nevada; and Hollie Volpp, Fresno, Calif. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, two brothers, George and Ray Dyer, both of Pleasantville, other relatives and friends. Four brothers, Ward, Fred, Tommy and James Dyer preceded her in death.
Mrs. Saar was a member of the Cantril United Methodist Church and Chapter AD, PEO at Milton, was a Past Matron of Cantil Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 23, 1989 at 11 a.m. at the Cantril United Methodist Church, Rev. Andrew Rubenking officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
