JOHN F. O. GILFILLAN PASSES AWAY AT AGE OF 92 YEARS
--------------
John Frederick Oberlin Gilfillan was born in West Alexander, Penn., June 16, 1832, and passed away April 6, 1925, at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 20 days.On July 3, 1855, nearly seventy years ago, he was united in marriage to Sarah Reed. To this union were born nine children, George W., of Hannibal, Mo.; Mary Belle, John and Mrs. Gertie Gibson, of Milton, Iowa; Mrs. Jennie Deal, of Garden City, Kansas, Mrs. Katherine Pennington, of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Grace Lightfoot and Harry B., of Moberly, Mo., and Josephine Carter, deceased. There are also eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.
Under the ministry of Rev. D. R. Martin he united with the Methodist church at Milton and continued a member of the same until his death.
Shortly after the Civil War he and his wife came from Pennsylvania and settled in Milton and have resided in and around here since that time.
For five years he has been helpless, during which time the daughter, Belle, has most faithfully and efficiently cared for him.
Mr. Gilfillan was a soldier in the Civil War and served his country during that great conflict.
The funeral was held from the home in Milton Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H. F. Gilbert, pastor of the M. E. church, the remains were interred in the Milton cemetery.
Thus our older people are passing on, their places are being taken by the younger men, but their memories will ever be revered.
