OBITUARY

Orpha Shotten, daughter of George and Jennie Shotten, was born in Scotland county, Mo., Feb. 7, 1881, and passed away at St. Joseph's hospital in Ottumwa, Iowa, Feb. 22, 1929, aged 48 years and 15 days.

She was united in marriage to C. E. Reese, April 24, 1901. They made their home in Cantril for a time after which they moved to the Upton viciuity [sic] where they have since resided.

To this union were born three children, one daughter, Mrs. John Wiley, of Bloomfield, Ia., and two sons, George and Lester, of Cantril.

In young womanhood she united with the M. E. church of Cantril, under the pastorate of Rev. G. L. Minear. She loved her church and Sabbath School and when health permitted was a regular attendant.

Mrs. Reese was a devoted wife, mother and neighbor. Always willing to lend the helping hand, whether the task be large or small. She will be greatly missed in the home, church and community where she has so faithfully and patiently toiled.

During the past few weeks she had been suffering from influenza, and following a relapse, developed spinal meningitis. All that loving care and medical skill could do were of no avail, and God took her home.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her companion, two sons, one daughter, and two grandchildren, Ralph and Clara Wiley.

Also five sisters, Mrs. Charles and Herbert Darnes, of Des Moines, Ia.; Mrs. J. C. Hutchinson, of Wapello, Ia.; Mrs. Fred Wireman and Mrs. Pearl Olsen, of Cantril, and one brother, Wylie Shotten also of Cantril, besides a host of friends and neighbors.

Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery, Saturday morning.
