DIES TUESDAY AT MOULTON

James Sparks, well and favorably known farmer of near Moulton, passed away Tuesday night. His death came as a severe shock to his relatives and friends who, although knowing that he was in failing health, held little thought that his condition was serious. Mr. Sparks was a man who made friends with ease and his acquaintances rapidly grew until they included a wide circle of friends. He was honest and industrious, considerate of his neighbors and always thoughful [sic] of those near him. His passing has left a vacancy in the community difficult to fill.

Mr. Sparks was born near Washington, Ind., August 3, 1867, and passed away at his home near Moulton, Tuesday, August 18, 1936, being at the time of his death 69 years and 15 days old. Death was attributed to heart trouble complications.

He came with his parents to a farm near Cantril, Iowa, when a small boy. In 1897 he was united in marriage to Jessie Davis Phillips. Soon after his marriage he was employed with the Burlington railroad. It was during his service with this road that he had the misfortune to slip and fall from a box car. He lost a leg as a result of the accident. Since then he has devoted his time to farming some of which was spent in Oklahoma.

He is survived by his devoted wife, two nieces, Mrs. George Haney of Ft. Madison and Mrs. George Holland, Terra Haute, Ind., and one nephew, Otho Sparks, of Keosauqua, besides a host of friends and other relatives. His parents and three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
