JESSE M. THOMAS

Funeral services of Jesse Michael Thomas were held on Saturday afternoon at the Cairo Evangelical church with interment near his former home.

Mr. Thomas died at his home on what is known as the Cal Ward farm southwest of Bonaparte about 11:15 p. m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, following an attack of apoplexy. He was born Sept. 20, 1872.

He was united in marriage with Sarah Godown and for some time they made their home in Van Buren county. Then they moved to Louisa county in the vicinity of Cairo where they lived until about two years ago when they returned to Van Buren county.

The wife and the following children survive: Lloyd, Verne, Paul and Lester Thomas, Mrs. Mary Rickey, Mrs. Blanche Howsare, Mrs. Mabel Olds, Mrs. Cleo Smith and Miss Mildred Thomas, all of whom are located in various communities away from home.

Surviving also are his mother, Mrs. Riley Thomas of Bonaparte, 15 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Grover, Vance, Willis, Robert, Lee and Albert Thomas, Mrs. Ira Whitcanack and Mrs. Godown.

NOTE: Other sources state Jesse died 18 Nov 1936 and is buried in Fulton Cemetery, Louisa County, Iowa. Also that his wife was DELLA MAE Godown not Sarah as in the above obituary. Jesse's mother was Tabitha Jane Ellis. This information has not been personally verified by me but in census records there is a Jesse with wife Della.
