OBITUARY

James R. Armstrong, son of John and Sarah Armstrong, was born near Louisville, Kentucky, Oct. 15th, 1842. He departed this life after a lingering illness, at the home of his son John near Cantril, Iowa, aged 87 years, 11 months and 10 days.

When 14 years of age he moved with his parents near St. Francisville, Mo.; later to Prairie View, Scotland county, Mo.

In early life he accepted Christ as his personal Savior, and united with the Methodist church, remaining faithful to the last.

In 1862, he was united in marriage to Mary Miller and to this union were born 9 children. His wife, one son and four daughters have preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his loss four children: John K. and Etta Kisling of Cantril, Iowa; Martin L. of Bisbee, Arizona; and Cynthia Bohmfolk of Carona [sic], California. Also a number of grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

In 1862, he enlisted in the services of his country, serving faithfully until 1865.

He will be greatly missed by his friends and relatives especially his son John, who has been his constant companion since the death of his wife.

Funeral services were held in the Prairie View M. E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. A. M. Hadley. Burial was in the Prairie View cemetery.
