DEATH OLD CITIZEN W. M. THARP PASSES AWAY
W. M. Tharp of Mt. Sterling, at one time a live stock buyer and a large land owner and one of the best known residents of Van Buren county, died at his home in Mt. Sterling, Ia., Tuesday, June 10. In the more recent past Mr. Tharp was an active business man of Mt. Sterling.
William Marshall Tharp was born in Harrison county, W. Va., January 28, 1840. In 1853 he came with his parents to Des Moines township, near Mt. Sterling, and he had resided there and at Mt. Sterling ever since. His age was 79 years, 4 months and 13 days.
Jan. 1, 1899, Mr. Tharp was united in marriage to Mrs. W. A. Watkins, who survives him. He also leaves to mourn his passing one son, John T. of Mt. Sterling, a daughter, Mrs. Belle Tharp Corwin of Hot Springs, Calif., and two step-sons and two
step-daughters.Mr. Tharp was converted and united with the M. E. church at Mt. Sterling Feb. 13, 1913, during the ministry of Rev. W. J. Fowler, and he was faithful in his attendance at the services of the church whenever his health and increasing years would permit.
