Funeral Wednesday Afternoon. Was Postmaster at Keosauqua

Benjamin J. Stong was born on the 29th day of March, 1870, at Kilbourne, Iowa, and died at his home in Keosauqua, Iowa, on the 19th day of October, 1936, aged 66 years.

On the 11th day of November, 1896, he was united in marriage to Ada Duffield, and their home was established in Pittsburg, Iowa, where Mr. Stong then engaged in the mercantile business. He was postmaster at Pittsburg when the first rural free delivery mail route was brought into Van Buren county and located at Pittsburg.

Later the family moved to Keosauqua where Mr. Stong continued in the mercantile business, except for a period of four years when he acted as Deputy Treasurer of Van Buren county. After this service he returned to the mercantile business, continuing until April, 1934, when he was appointed postmaster of Keosauqua, which position he held at the time of his death.

Mr. Stong is survived by his wife, three sons, Philip D., Jo [sic] S. and Benton J. Stong; one granddaughter, Norma Stong; a sister, Mrs. Allie Short; a brother, Dr. G. C. Stong, and numerous other relatives.
