Michael Simmons, 84, of Farmington died at 1:15 p.m. Friday, Nov 21, at the Riverview Nursing Home in Farmington. He had been in failing health for several years.
The son of Michael and Mary Ellen Dorsey Simmons, he was born near Bonaparte, Dec. 17, 1873. He was married to Della Gertrude Johnson in 1895. She preceded him in death March 16, 1944. He was also preceded by one daughter, Cora Ethel Simmons, in 1915.
He spent his entire life, withe the exception of four years when he lived in Custer county, Neb., in VanBuren ounty. He was a farmer until the death of his wife, at which time he retired from active farming and moved to Farmington.
He had been Van Buren county supervisor and assessor. He got much enjoyment from sports, especially baseball.
Surviving are one son, Leslie E., Danville, Ia.; two brothers, Clyde and John, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Addie Simmons, Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a lond time member of the Story Chapel Methodist and became an honored member of the Farmington Methodist Church after that church ceased to be.
Funeral Service were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at the Farmington Methodist Church with the Rev. M.Ellsworth Walker officiating. Burial was in the Thompson cemetery.
