Mrs. Elizabeth GragesElizabeth Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Harris, was born Sept. 26, 1842, in Terre Haute, Ind. While she was yet young she came to Iowa.
On April 19, 1863, she was married to Henry W. Grages at Pulaski. Of this union were born ten children, two of whom, Jennie and Carrie, preceded their mother in death. The living are Lewis H. of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Elizabeth Malony of Bentonsport; Mrs. Amanda Huston of Davenport; C. Wesley of Marinette, Wis.; Mrs. J. H. DeWalt of Cedar Rapids; George of Keokuk; Mrs. W. M. Princess of Los Angeles, Calif., and Martha Alice Knecht of Davenport.
Mrs. Grages spent almost her whole married life in Van Buren county living more than fifty years on what they still call the old home place four miles southeast of Keosauqua. Here her children grew up and her husband died. About four years ago she came to her little home in Bonaparte from whence she departed to the other world at 2:30 o'clock the morning of Novermber 5, 1923, at the good age of 81 years, one month and thirteen days.
Besides the children named above she leaves in fond remembrance seven grandchildren and a large number of friends. She was a kind, loving mother and a friend to everyone.
Funeral services were held in the Baptist church at Bonaparte at ten o'clock Tuesday morning, November 6th, Rev. J. S. Coppoe in charge. Burial was in the Bonaparte cemetery.
