Emmit E. "Chief" Ewing, 84, Keosauqua died Jan. 5,1993 at the Van Buren Co. Hospital, Keosauqua. He was born Oct. 12,1908, near Mt. Zion to William J. and Nancy Rupe Ewing. He married Esther Thomas, March 7,1933 in Lancaster, Mo. He was employed by the Rock Island Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1972. He had lived in Douds and Bonaparte, and entered the Van Buren Co. Good Samaritan Center in 1991. Surviving are his wife Esther of Keosauqua, a daughter Edna Lewman and her husband Thomas of Keosauqua, 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. A grandson preceded him in death. He is the last surviving member of a family of 12 children. Funeral services were held Jan. 8,1993, at the Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua. Burial was in Bonaparte Cemetery.
