John Winfield Kritzman was born Jan. 11,1861, near Payson, Adams County,Il and departed this life at the Ottumwa hospital Feb. 6,1935, at the age of 74 years and 25 days. After failing in health for almost a year, he underwent a serious surgical operation Oct.13,1934, but all the medical skill and loving care failed to restore him to health. When but a small boy he moved with his family to Van Buren county,Iowa, in which he resided the remainder of his life. On Feb. 26,1885, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Weiss at Quincy, Il. To this union was born seven children, namely Hannah M., Mrs. Ed Shobe, Wallace J., Alma I., Edith P., Clara E., and Elmer E., all of whom were present at the bedside during the last few days of his illness. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Carrie Williams, of Mesa Az, one grandson, four granddaughters and other relatives and friends. His wife preceded him in death Jan. 17,1918 and during the intervening years his home was made comfortable by his daughters who resided at home with him. Mr. Kritzman was a good father and an honest, quite, industrious man. He will be greatly missed by his children. His place can never be filled. Funeral services were held at the Lebanon church Saturday Feb. 9,1935. Interment in the Lebanon cemetery.
