Alexander Woods Glascock, son of Eugene Wilson and Ellen Woods Glascock was born on a farm near Bentonsport, Iowa on Dec. 17, 1878 and taken from this life at home by a heart attack on Oct. 30, 1969 at the age of 90 years, 10 mo., and 13 days.
At the age of 7 he moved to Bonaparte where he attended school and grew to manhood. For several years he worked at the Meeks Brothers Woolen Mills in Bonaparte. In 1897 he moved to a farm northwest of Bonaparte where he farmed with his father until he was married.
Alex was united in marriage to Myrtle Mae Rowe on Oct. 28, 1912, who preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 1959. They moved on the Rowe farm in the Utica Community where he farmed and spent the remainder of his life. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Louise Pence of Keosauqua.
To his family and friends he was always known as “Doc”. He was an honest, gentle, kindhearted man and was well liked by all who knew him. He enjoyed exceptionally good health and never was hospitalized in his entire life.
In his later years he retained an excellent memory and loved to talk of the early days in Van Buren County, especially of the towns of Bonaparte and Bentonsport. Alexc loved his home and family and liked to work. He was always busy at something, right up to the time of death. He was a member of the Baptist Church, also of the Stockport Lions Club.
He leaves to mourn one daughter, Mildred Louise and one granddaughter, Shirley Jean Pence of Keosauqua, Iowa; four nephews; Floyd Pratt of Eldora, Ia., Harold Pratt of Keosauqua, Wm. Lloyd Pratt of Bonaparte, Ia., and Francis Pratt of Oregon, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He had two brothers, Charlie and William and four sisters, Anna, Edna, Jessie and Jennie Frances, his parents, all brothers and sisters and 26 cousins preceded him in death.
