J. C. “Red” Story, 81, Keosauqua, died at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, 1988 at the Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua.

Story was born Oct. 18, 1907, at Chambersburg, Mo., the son of Delbert and Maggie Jane Neff Story. He grew up in Clark County, Mo., and the Farmington community. He farmed and lived in the Stockport community for most of his life. He also had been a caller for square dances in southeast Iowa and northeast Missouri.

Story retired in 1980 to the Country Lane Apartments in Keosauqua and he had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center since 1982.

He married Mary Pratt Nov. 30, 1930 at Farmington. She survives, along with three sons, Marvin of Stockport, Melvin of Birmingham and Delbert Eugene of Montezuma; one daughter, Zella Hummell of Festuis, Mo; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Burch-Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham with the Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Dibble Cemetery southeast of Stockport. Visitation is open.

Memorials may be made to the Keosauqua Good Samaritan Center activity fund.
