John Frederick Mack was born in Wittenberg, Germany, September 6, 1853, and died at his home a few miles east of Bonaparte, on Friday, June 25, 1920, aged 66 years, 9 months and 19 days.

He came to the United States in 1884, coming first to Keokuk and afterwards to Farmington where he resided for some time. He was united in marriage to Miss Martha Schau at her home southeast of Bonaparte, in 1887 and they have resided in this vicinity since that time, having resided for several years on the Sanders farm just east of Bonaparte, later below Farmington, and then moving to the farm where Mr. Mack died.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Troutman and Mrs. Amelia Bennett, and one son, Freddy Mack, all of Bonaparte. Besides the immediate relatives, a niece, Mrs. Albert Miller of Farmington, is the only relative Mr. Mack had in this country. He was the last of a family of five to die.

Funeral services were held in the Bonaparte Baptist church on Sunday, June 27, a German Lutheran minister from Primrose preaching the sermon. Interment was in the Bonaparte cemetery.
