Elizabeth Miller, daughter of Solomon and Mary Miller, was born near Lafayette, Indiana, July 9, 1944 (tombstone says 1843).

There were three children in the family, all of whom are deceased. They came to Iowa when she was twelve years of age and located in a log cabin on the south bank of the river, opposite Bonaparte, the bank of the river then being about where the first pier of the bridge is now located.

In September of 1870 she was united in marriage with George U. Mitchell and all of their married life was spent in Bonaparte. Three sons were born to this union, viz. George E. of Monmouth, Illinois; Frank E., who died in 1912; and Bruce H. of Valley Junction, Iowa.

The husband and father departed this life in May of 1909. She continued to reside in Bonaparte until the death of her son, Frank, in 1912 when she moved to Valley Junction and made her home with her son, Bruce.

Her death came quite suddenly on Saturday evening, February 8, 1919 at about 10:50 o'clock, being caused by heart failure, she having attained the age of seventy-four years, six months, and twenty-nine days.

Besides the members of the family above mentioned there are two grandsons, George and Charles, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce H. Mitchell, also a host of friends, who mourn the loss of a loved one.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at Bonaparte, Iowa, on Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Coppoc of the Baptist church in charge. Interment in the Bonaparte cemetery.
