Richard G. McCarty, 70, of Bonaparte, died at 12:20 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2007 at home.

He was born March 8, 1936 at Mt. Zion to Thomas and Madeline Slutts McCarty. He married Velva Rowe. They divorced. He married Linda Morris December 24, 1970 at Oquawka, Illinois.

He lived in Mt. Zion and Stockport and many years in Bonaparte. He was a self-employed carpenter, had worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Burlington, and served in the U.S. Army 1953-55 during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Cindy Chambers of Bonaparte; one son, Rob McCarty of Keosauqua; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Les McCarty of Pittsburg, Gary McCarty of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Donnie McCarty of Monroe, Louisiana; and three sisters, Audrey of Colorado, and Verna Coleman and Carolyn Gaskell both of Bonaparte.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Robert, Arthur and James McCarty and one sister, LaVena Duncan.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 23 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, with Pastor Mark Caston officiating. Burial with military rites by Sargeant-Osweiler Post No. 563, American Legion, Bonaparte, was in Bonaparte Cemetery.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 232, Bonaparte, Ia 52620.
