Glen Irvin Cocherell, 74, died July 31, 2004 at his home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born June 19, 1930 in Bonaparte, to Willard and Helen Noske Cocherell. He married Beverly Ann Muntz on December 20, 1952 in Farmington.

He graduated from Bonaparte in 1948. After working at the Bonaparte Glove Factory, he joined the U.S.A.F. In 1952. He spent 22 years in the W.S.A.F. Fire Protection Crash Rescue Service, retiring in 1974 at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and then served another 13 years as a civil service employee as the Fire Chief at Hurlburt A.F.B. In northwest Florida.

After his retirement, Glen enjoyed golf and traveling back to Bonaparte yearly to visit with his brother, Fid, and all his friends from Bonaparte and the surrounding area. He had many fond memories of his boyhood hometown and lifelong friends and kept up with the activities in the Van Buren County area by reading the Leader-Record at his home in Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.

He is survived by his wife, Esther; one brother, Fid; one son, Ronald; one daughter, Julie Peacock; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A memorial service was held on August 3, in First Presbyterian Church at Fort Walton Beach with Dr. Jack Walchenbach and the Rev. Bob Inman officiating. The body was cremated.

Burial will be in the Bonaparte Cemetery with a graveside service on Saturday, October 23, at 11 a.m.
