Elmer E. Smith, 85, formerly of Keokuk, died at 6:20 Wednesday evening Feb. 19, 1969 at the Good Samaritan Home at Quincy, where he has been since 1966. He had been in failing health several years.

The son of the late Wallace and Mary Duer Smith, he was born on Sept. 12, 1883 at Bonaparte. He had lived in Keokuk more than 20 years makinghis residence at Quincy in 1966.

He was married to Mrs. Georgiana Troutman Dickinson on December 27, 1911 in Keokuk, and she preceded him in death in October 1958.

Mr. Smith was an accountant, having been retired for the past 20 years.

He was a member of the Baptist Church at Bonaparte, a member for over 50 years of Bonaparte Lodge No. 73, A.F. & A.M., for over 50 years Lafayette Chapter No. 61, Royal Arch Masons, for over fifty years a member of Damascus Commandery No. 5, Knights Templar, Keokuk, a member of Davenport Consistory; also a member for over 50 years of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and at the time of his death was a member of Keokuk Lodge No. 13 in Keokuk.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd H. (Wilma) Henry of Keokuk, a son, W. Scott Smith of Burlington, four grandchildren, Mrs. Howard (Darlene) Goodrich, Columbia, Ohio, Robert Henry of Galesburg, Mrs. John (Marsha) Kenison, Hannibal, Karen Smith of St. Louis, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death, besides his wife, by a sister, Mary Stanford, three brothers, Wallace, Roy and Edward Smith and a granddaughter, Beverly Henry in 1939 at the age of 4 years.

Service was held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Schmidt Memorial Home with the Rev. Edward D. Byrd of Montrose officiating. Burial was in the Bonaparte Cemetery, Bonaparte, Ia.

Masonic service was held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Schmidt Memorial Home.
