Charles Emmett Hogan, son of J. Walter and Ethel Kelsey Hogan, was born in Farmington, Iowa, Oct. 15, 1906, and passed from this life at the University Hospital, Iowa City Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 21, 1947, aged forty-one years and six days.

Emmett spent practically all his life in Van Buren county. He attended the public school in Bonaparte, learned the barber trade, and for a number of years had his own shop. He worked for some time in Keosauqua, then returned to Bonaparte and was employed for eight years with his parents in the Dinette.

August 25, 1946, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Eva Bailey Kite. June 13th of this year he became ill and was taken to Oakdale for treatment. He underwent an operation Tuesday morning in the University hospital, Iowa City, which seemed successful, but complications arose that resulted in his death shortly after noon of that day.

Of his immediate family he leaves to mourn, his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Walter Hogan; his wife, Eva,and her two children, Mary Elen and Julian Kite; his brother, Gerald Hogan of Des Moines and his sister, Mrs. Dorothy Workman and husband, Clarence, and their four children, Carolyn, Clarence Eugene, Velda Kay and Kathleen Sue, of Bonaparte.

Emmett was a member of the Masonic Lodge and took great interest in studying the work of that organization. His was a kindly disposition, making for him many friends who, with his family, mourn his untimely death.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. At the Bonaparte Presbyterian church with Rev. C. F. McMican officiating. Burial was in Bonaparte cemetery.
