Clyde Peterie, 77, Keosauqua, died about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 1955 of a shotgun wound, which Coroner Harold Catcott said was self-inflicted. The shooting took place near the apartment building, across from Keosauqua Creamery, where he made his home.

The coroner said Peterie parked his car, got out and shot himself in the chest with a 16 gauge gun. There were no witnesses. He had been ill for two years and was said to be despondent.

He was born March 21, 1878 in Farmington township, the son of Andrew and Sarah Perkins Peterie. His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. He was married Sept. 18, 1907 to Lynda Durfee of Detroit, Mich., who survives. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Daisy Beard of Bonaparte.

Mr. and Mrs. Peterie moved to Keosauqua about two years ago after he had suffered a severe heart attack after having made their home in Bonaparte for the last twenty-five years.

The funeral service was held at the Bonaparte Presbyterian church on Thursday afternoon of last week, Rev. C.F. McMican and Rev. J. Beltz officiating. Mrs. Paul Morris of Rock Island, a close friend, furnished music during the service and burial was in the Bonaparte cemetery with a short Masonic burial service at the grave.
