Leola J. Steinmeyer, 81, of Fort Madison, died at 10:22 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 1987 at Fort Madison Community Hospital. She had been ill nine months.
Mrs. Steinmeyer was born September 22, 1906 in Clark County, Missouri. She had lived in Fort Madison 20 years. She was a past president of the Fort Madison Senior Citizens and of the Hillview Village Tenants Association. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church and the Peacemakers Circle of the church. She was a former house mother for the Mental Health Nurses in Training program at Mount Pleasant and for Robert Morris College at Carthage, Illinois.
On May 10, 1924 she was married to Willard J. Steinmeyer, who preceded her in death in May, 1963.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Madalynne Parish and Mrs. Carl (Patsy) Roush, both of Mount Sterling, Iowa and Shelia Shriver, Donnellson; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and a grandchild. Her parents were John W. and Roxa Hunter Keeler.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 25, 1987 at the First Baptist Church. Burial was in the Bonaparte Cemetery. King-Lynk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are being established with the First Baptist Church and the American Cancer Society.
