Gerald Hogan, 51, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1965 at 4 a.m. At the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City. He had been in failing health for some time and seriously ill a week.
Born May 19, 1914, he was the son of James Walter and Ethel Mae Kelsey Hogan. He spent his childhood in Bonaparte.
A barber by trade, he had worked in Des Moines and Ottumwa prior to moving to Bonaparte.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge, AF & AM, and the American Legion. Mr. Hogan served three years in the South Pacific during World War II.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Clarence Workman of Bonaparte; two aunts, Mrs. John McIntosh of LaMesa, Calif., and Mrs. Nellie Vance of Bonaparte, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Emmett.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. At the Bonaparte Baptist Church. Burial was in Bonaparte Cemetery. Masonic and military services were conducted at the graveside.
