Charles E. Carter, son of John and Bertha Syfert Carter, was born August 7, 1905 at Pierceville in Van Buren county and departed this life Thursday. April 19, 1979 at the Ottumwa Hospital at the age of 73.
On November 2, 1936 he married Mabel Davis in Memphis, Missouri. The Carters farmed east of Mt. Sterling their entire married life until retiring to Keosauqua in 1977.
Mrs. Carter remains to cherish his memory, along with their son, Harold and daughter-in-law Carol, their daughter Irene and son-in-law Brad Baker all of Keosauqua. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Deanna and Karen Carter and William and Christy Baker, two brothers, Roger of Hillsboro and James of Rushville, Illinois, a sister, Gladys Watson of Stockport, other relatives and many friends. A brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
Charley will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor and friend.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 21, 1979 at 3:30 p.m. at the Mt. Sterling United Church, with the Rev. Edward Kail, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Clell Parish was the pianist. Pallbearers were Alvin Beaty, Albert Todd, Russel Gordy, Wayne Septer, Max Madden, and Johnnie Brewer. Interment was in the Bonaparte Cemetery. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua was in charge of arrangements.
