Last Wednesday afternoon the intelligence reached this city that Alexander Miller, residing north of town had been found dead in a well, and to the many friends of the old gentleman the tidings carried sadness. The circumstances surrounding the death are shrouded in mystery, and will never be known, as no eye rested on the scene when the spirit found release and went back to the God who gave it so many weary years ago.

Deceased lived with his daughter, on the farm that for forty years or more had been the home. The old gentleman had become very feeble with added years, and his infirmities had been the source of much worry to him in recent years, and his infirmities had been the source of much worry to him in recent years, but he was able to get about with the aid of a cane.

On the afternoon in question Mr. Miller expressed his intention of visiting the pasture well, to ascertain the water supply, and not returning in a reasonable length of time the daughter became apprehensive of his wellfare [sic] and went is search of him. On arriving at the well she found the cap and cane of the father near the opening, while from a limb of a nearby tree hung suspended a handkerchief, a mute appeal for assistance that came too late.

The daughter at once notified neighbors who responded and the body was taken from the water, with life extinct.

The body was laid to rest Friday in the Bonaparte cemetery, Rev. Williamson officiating.
