Passing of a Pioneer Mary Bowles

An aged and respected citizen of this county called. The angels of death claimed one of the earliest settlers last Tuesday evening at 6 o'clock p.m. when Mrs. Mary H. Bowles was relieved of her long confinement to her bed of 14 months, she had lain unable to help herself and sometimes even feed herself. She was a constant care to others, she often prayed for death which finally came to her relief Aug. 22nd 1905, at a ripe old age of 88 yrs. 1 month and 6 days. Her maiden name was Miss Mary Harrington Fassett, she was born in New York state July the 16th 1817. In 1837 she came west with her parents settling at Farmington, she was married to Wm. Bowles July 4th 1841 to this union was born six children five of whom still survive her Mrs. Dan Simpson and Chas. Bowles reside in Farmington, W. R. and Albert live near the old home and John Bowles on the old home place he being his mothers only support for years. The husband passed away Mar. 1st, 1896. Jenettie the oldest daughter in the year of 1883. She leaves to mourn her loss five children, ten grand children and a host of sympathising [sic] friends. He remains were laid to rest in the cemetary [sic] at the Union Chapel at Acasto, Mo., conducted by the Rev. Longson of Farmington, she is gone, her work is done and she is at rest.
