Word was received in Bonaparte, Tuesday morning, Nov. 24, 1959 of the death of Ray J. Kerr, who made his home in Clawson, Mich. Ray J. Kerr, son of Mr. and Mrs. George M. Kerr, was born in Bonaparte, Iowa, Feb. 3, 1898. He graduated in 1916 from Bonaparte high school and enlisted in the Army in April 1917 where he saw service in France during World War I. Mr. Kerr was married to Miss Goldie Repp of Albia in October, 1923. To this union one daughter Marilyn was born. Mr. Kerr was a Linotype operator and machinist, working at this trade about 38 years. He had been employed on the Royal Oak, Mich., Daily Tribune since 1927. He suffered a stroke in 1946 from which he had fully recovered and since that time three heart attacks. Early last summer he suffered a heart attack from which he never fully recovered and his death was due to a heart condition. Mr. Kerr was a member of the American Legion, a 40 year member of the Masonic Order, and was also a member of the Eastern Star Order and Typographical Union. He served terms on the town council in Clawson, Mich., and on the school board and was active in civic affairs as long as his health permitted. He is survived by his wife, his daughter, at home; five sisters, Mrs. Leslie Hainline, Bonaparte; Mrs. Ray Morton, Hamilton, Ind.; Miss Helen Kerr and Mrs. Russell Lockwood, Belleville, Mich.; and Florabelle Cox, Keosauqua; three brothers, Arlie and Cecil of Colorado, and William R. Kerr of Bonaparte. One sister Mildred, and his parents preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 27 at 3:30 p.m. at Clawson, Mich.
