Native of Germany Came to Farmington in 1882. A cripple for many years.
The community was greatly shocked to hear of the death of Fredrick A. Schmidt which ocurred at the family home northwest of town, March 18th, 1924 at two o'clock at the age of 75 years 10 months and 13 days, after an illness of only a few days, of pneumonia and heart complications. Fourteen years ago he had the misfortune to be kicked by a horse and it was necessary to amputate his limb which caused him untold suffering but he remained cheerful to the end. He was born May 30th, 1848 in Langendamebuch, Germany. He served two years in the Franco-Prussian War and was wounded at the siege of Paris. He was married to Caroline Schau April 18th, 1872. To this union ten children were born. Three sons and two daughters preceded him in death. Surviving him are his wife and following children, Herman, George and Willie of Farmington, Mrs. Fred Schmidt of Bonaparte, Ia. and Mrs. Emery Greenfield of Washington, Ia. Also twelve grandchildren, one brother, and one sister. He came to this country Oct. 29th, 1882 and settled on the farm that has been his home ever since. At the age of fifteen he was converted and united with the German Lutheran Church and remained a faithful member. The funeral services were held Sunday from the home of George Schmidt and were conducted by Rev. Wuebben of Prim....(torn). The remains were interred at the Steinmeyer cemetery.
