Ida Karoline, only child of Dorthy and Fredrick Schau, was born Dec. 3, 1849 in Langen, Denbrich, Germany, and died Oct. 22, 1929, at the home of her oldest son, Herman Schmidt, with whom she was making a home most of the time since the death of her husband, March 13, 1924.April 18, 1872, she was united in marriage to [Fredrick]Amundas Schmidt, and to this union 10 children were born, six boys and four girls.
When quite young she was united with the German Lutheran church where she was always a faithful member. On Oct. 29, 1882, with her husband and three children she arrived in Farmington and at once settled on a farm three miles west of that town where they lived for 41 years. She leaves to mourn five children. Herman, George, and Will Schmidt of Farmington, Katherine Greenfield of Washington, Iowa and Emma Schmidt of Bonaparte; also twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at the Farmington Baptist Church. Interment in the Steinmeyer cemetery by the side of her husband.
