Mrs. Alva W. McCoy b. 1861

MCCOY, PREVOST, JONES, WALES, MEYERHOFF

Mrs. Alva W. McCoy, for many years a resident of this vicinity, died Saturday morning at 11:30 o'clock at her home southwest of Villisca after prolonged illness. She was 67 years old.

Caroline Jane Prevost was born at Kirkwood, Ill., on March 20, 1861, and at the age of 12 years she moved with her parents to a farm southeast of Villisca where she grew to womanhood. She was married Oct. 31, 1883, to Alva W. McCoy, and to this union four children were born, one of whom died in infancy. Those who with the father and husband survive are Guy of Villisca, Vernon of Anita, Iowa, Dennis of Greenfield, Iowa, all of whom were with Mrs. McCoy at the time of her death.

She leaves also three sisters, Mrs. Robert Jones of Hood River, Oregon, Mrs. Harry Wales of Smith Center, Kas., and Mrs. D. H. Meyerhoff of Corning, two brothers, Geo. Prevost of Ferndale, Wash., and Wm. H. Prevost of Villisca, and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. McCoy was a member of the Methodist church and of the Royal Neighbors lodge. Her funeral was held Monday afternoon in the Methodist church, with Rev. Geo. A. Lawton in charge, assisted by Rev. L. B. Carpenter. The singing was by Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Shane and Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Nordyke, with Mrs. J. L. Wheeler at the organ, and the pallbearers were J. E., Chas. M., H. C. and Ralph McCoy, B. O. Negley and C. E. Edwards. Interment was in the Villisca cemetery.

Those here from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Dennis McCoy, Greenfield, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon McCoy, Anita, Iowa; Mrs. D. H. Meyerhoff, Corning; Mrs. E. R. Wood, Red Oak; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Wise, Mrs. M. M. Wise and son Jud, and John Swift, Shenandoah; Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Spicer, Grant; Milton James, Corning; and Mrs. C. C. Depew, Clarinda.
