Charles J., son of Jeremia and Elizabeth Sample, was born on June 7 1857, in Mt. Sterling, Iowa, and passed to his eternal reward Jan. 3, 1919, at Siloam Springs, Ark., aged 61 years, 6 months and 27 days. He resided in Mt. Sterling until 1905, when he changed his residence to Siloam Springs, Ark.
He was united in marriage to Mammie Boyd June 10, 1913. He united with the M. E. church in 1890 and was a faithful member of that church until he moved to Arkansas. He then became a member of the United Presbyterian church. He was regular in his attendance of the services of the sanctuary when the conditions of his health would permit.
He leave to mourn his passing his loving wife, a nephew in Canada, a number of cousins and a host of friends in both Iowa and Arkansas. He was a good husband, a faithful friend and a good Christian and will be missed most by those who knew him best.
