Oil fumes fill home; aged woman dies
Farmington -- Mattie Davis, 83, died January 13, at about 9 p.m. at her home on S. 4th St. Death was caused by complications following exposure, augmented by gas fumes. On New Year's Eve, Miss Davis, who lived alone and was partially crippled, went out in her backyard for fuel. She fell, and by the time neighbors heard her cries for help, she was partially covered with snow. Tuesday morning, she lighted an oil stove and then lay down and went to sleep. The stove flared up, filling the house with smoke and fumes, which, her physician stated, where a contributing factor to her death. Miss Davis had been a resident of Farmington for about 25 years. The body is at the Swan funeral home.
