Lewis H. Channell

Lewis H. Channell was born April 8, 1876 at Cantril, the son of Weldo and Sarah J. Channell. He spent his entire life in Van Buren County except the past four years when he lived in Sacramento, Calif. He died at the home of his son, Thomas, in Sacramento, April 13, 1938, aged 62 years and 5 days.

He was married to Katherine Brooks in 1900. To this union seven children were born: Leo Channell of Keosauqua, Thomas of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Margaret Laughlin of Douds, Mrs. Thelma Talbott of Keosauqua, William of Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Dorothy Hootman of Douds, and Forrest of Keosauqua. Mrs. Channell died April 10, 1918.
On December 18, 1819 he married Mrs. Carrie Monroe, of Bonaparte, who preceded him in death, Sept. 5, 1933. To this union seven children were born: Lena of Keosauqua, John of Libertyville, Raymond and Ralph, twins, of Blakesburg, Mary of Douds, and Joe of Sacramento. One son, Robert, died in infancy.

He is survived by his aged mother, Mrs. Sarah Channell, of Sacramento; his thirteen children, 7 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Frank Hughes, also of Sacramento. He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, W. H. and P. E., and one sister and one granddaughter, Evelyn Louise Talbott.

Funeral services were in Sacramento, Calif. He united with the M. E. Church while still a lad.
