Minerva Potter, youngest child and last surviving member of a family of twelve children of Samuel and Nancy Potter, was born Knox County, Illinois, November 17, 1861, and passed away at the home of her daughter in McCook, Nebraska, December 22, 1947, having attained the age of 86 years one month and five days.
When a very small child she came with her parents, by covered wagon, to Van Buren County, Iowa, settling near Cantril. It was here she grew to womanhood and on September 20, 1882, she was united in marriage to Newton E. McLeland. To this union six children were born.
In December, 1905, with her husband and family she came west, settling 13 miles northeast of Palisade, Nebraska. Here she made her home until the year of 1924 when she and her husband retired from the farm and moved to Palisade. This was her home for 20 years. Her declining health and inability to care for her home caused her to come to McCook, Nebraska, to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Hugh Brown and husband.
At the age of 14 years, she accepted the Christian way of life and united with the Christian church, Cantril, Iowa, at which place her membership lingers.
Mrs. McLeland was blessed with good health and four days before her passing she suffered a fall, followed by a stroke. All that loving hands could do, was to no avail and she passed peacefully away.
She was a kind and loving Mother, a thoughtful, generous and helpful neighbor, and ever ready to heed the call for help.
She leaves to mourn her death six children; Robert E. McLeland, Milton, Oregon; Jesse A. McLeland, McCook, Nebr.; June Brown, McCook, Nebr.; Ernest M. McLeland, Denver, Colo.; Hollis D. McLeland, Hayes Center, Nebr. Besides her children, she is survived by 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were conducted from Breland’s Funeral Chapel on December 24, 1947, at two o’clock P.M., with Rev. N. J. Horn, pastor of the Christian Church of McCook, Nebraska, and burial was made in the Palisade cemetery beside her husband.
Pallbearers were six grandsons.

Oh, how sweet to breathe your name.

We will often sit and think of you
When we are all alone.

That grief can call its own.Card of Appreciation
