Old Resident of Hayes County Dead

Newton E. McLeland passed to rest Friday afternoon (April 24, 1925) after a stroke of paralysis which he had some weeks ago. He had been in ill health for some time previous to the last sickness.

All that loving hands could do for him was done by his loving wife and children.

He had lived in this section of Nebraska twenty years and had a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Christner.

The Times joins with the many friends of the deceased in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones.

OBITUARY

When he was a small by his parents moved to Cantril, Iowa, where he grew to manhood and was married on September 20, 1882, to Minerva Potter.

To them were born six children: four sons and two daughters, Robert E., Jesse A., June E. Brown, Ernest M., Hollis D., and Bertha G. Smith, all of whom, with the mother and seventeen grandchildren survive him.

In December, 1905, he came, with his family, to Hayes county, Nebraska, where by his upright living and noble character, he made many friends and as in his old home his friends were numbered by his acquaintances of which he had many.

His health having failed him he moved, with his kind and loving wife, to Palisade one year ago hoping to improve in health, but a few weeks ago suffered a paralytic stroke and on Friday afternoon, April 24, at the age of 69 years, 26 days, he passed to rest surrounded by his wife and six children, who had tenderly cared for him during all his illness.

In 1895 he united with the Christian church at Cantril, Iowa, and retained his membership through all these years and lived for and walked with God for 30 years.

The relatives from a distance who were present; two brothers, Guy of Cantril, Iowa; Charles of Omaha, a sister, Mrs. Alma Work of Cantril, Iowa, a nephew, Ray McLeland and wife of Brule, Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Fannie Heckinger of Corning, California, was unable to be present.
