Fred E. Kimmel, 74, of Washington, died today, Feb. 18, 1987, at Washington Care Center. He had been in failing health since Sept. 29, 1986.
Services for Mr. Kimmel will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Debbie Kiesey officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday where the family will be present from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Washington County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Frederick Eugene Kimmel was born March 16, 1912, in Van Buren County, a son of John and Louisa Miner Kimmel. He was reared in Keosauqua.
On Sept. 23, 1933, he married Fern Hysell. Mr. Kimmel later married Nancy L. Jones Latcham in Missouri on Sept. 6, 1969.
He has been a resident of Washington since 1932 working at the Button Factory and for McCleery Cumming Company for 25 years as a pressman and paper cutter. He retired in 1977.
Mr. Kimmel was a member of the Moose Lodge and the United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Washington; seven children, Fred D. Kimmel of Ankeny; Shirley A. Nayadley of Kalona, Sharon (Mrs. Ward) Latcham, Debbie J. Crooks, Rhonda (Mr. Robert) Christe, Fred W. Kimmel, and Tim E. Kimmel, all of Washington; three step-children, Randy Latcham of Eddyville, Regina (Mrs. William) Tisor of Ainsworth, Rosanne Latcham of Springfield, Va.; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and eight brothers and sisters, Lucy McGaffey of Fairfield, Henry Kimmel of Milton, Paul Kimmel of Bettendorf, Edith Fisher of Illinois, Helen Leydon and Eleanore Stalder, both of Washington; Marietta Canaday of Selma and Ruth McGill of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by one brother, one daughter and his parents.
