LILY HANEY HOLLAND
Lily Haney was born February 28, 1873 in Village Township, Van Buren County Iowa and died at the home of her father in Keosauqua on April 23, 1897. Her childhood was spent on a farm near the place of her birth. When 14 years of age she moved with her parents to Milton where she was graduated with the class of 1891. Later she completed a course in elocution in the Southern Iowa Normal at Bloomfield.
In the winter of 1888 she was converted and joined the M.E. Church remaining a faithful and consistent member until called to the Church above. August 14, 1895 she was united in marriage to Mr. C.H. Holland. Their married life was joyous and happy. She entered enthusiastically into the plans of her life partner and was a devoted and loving helpmate. One child came to bless the union who with the bereaved husband, survives the departed wife and mother.
The remains were brought to Milton on Saturday April 24th and the funeral services were held from the M.E. Church, conducted by her pastor, J. Wesley Potter, who used for his text, “What I do, thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.” The church was crowded with relatives and friends who gathered to pay their last respects. The remains were laid to rest in the new cemetery. I am not related and am posting this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
