MARY B. EDMONDSON
A mother in Israel, and one of the pioneer women of Van Buren County has fallen. Mary B. McCutchan was born in Augusta County Virginia, January 27, 1805, and was married August 18, 1831 to William Edmondson, a soldier of the War of 1812. The young couple determined to cast their lot in Henry County Indiana, making the journey of several hundred miles over the mountains of West Virginia on horseback. After a residence in Indiana of about 14 years, stories of the wonderful fertility of the territory of Iowa induced them in 1846 to leave behind the graves of two children Henry M. and Sarah M., and journey thither. They located on the farm in Jackson Township, where on October 13, 1866, her husband died. Mother Edmondson survived his decease nearly 20 years, peacefully closing her eyes in the presence of her surviving children, Mrs. Mary J. Holland, John C. Edmondson and W.F. Edmondson, at sunrise on the morning of her 81 birthday, January 27, 1886. Rev. William Young preached the funeral discourse, and she was interred in the Oak Point Cemetery next day. Deceased had been a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. The memory of the prayers and counsels of this dear old mother will ever remain green in our hearts. I am not related and am posting this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
