SARAH LEE HOLLAND
Sarah Lee Holland, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Holland was born December 30, 1882, and died January 23, 1895 aged 12 years and 24 days. The death of this little one came so suddenly that it has cast a gloom over our entire community. She was sick only about ten days and it was not generally known that she was so seriously ill until a short time before she died. She was universally loved by those who knew her; bright and quick intellectually, usually leading her grade in the public school; genial and affable socially and hence a favorite among her school mates and young companions. Best of all, Sarah was an earnest little Christian. Just one year ago this month, she bowed at the alter of consecration, and devoted her young life to the service of Jesus. Often her voice has been heard in song and testimony in the Sunday School, Junior League and other church services; for she was a sweet singer.
Her removal from us leaves our hearts sad for we miss her sweet face and kind words; in the home most of all. But God knew best. He gave and He has taken away. We bow in submission while we ask for grace to say “Thy will be done.”
Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church at 1:30 p.m. on January 24, conducted by her pastor Rev. B.M. Boydston. The public schools were dismissed for the day so that all might attend. Most beautiful floral tributes were furnished by the teachers and pupils. It was a very touching sight to see the grief of her school-mates. May they all live as to meet her in that land where sickness and death never enter. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the family. She leaves to mourn her going, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Holland, five brothers, Perry, Howard, Frank, John and George and one sister Bertha, all of Milton. I am not related and am posting this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
