Leah Virginia Shephard was born in the state of Virginia Feb 25, 1849. She was one of a family of seven children and when 9 years of age her parents changed their place of residence to Clarke County, Mo. In 1877 she was married to Geo. C. Collins. This union was blest with two children, Goldie and Arlie. Most of her life has been lived on a farm near Anson, Mo. Her husband preceded her to the great beyond March 23, 1912. In October of the year 1921, she moved to Farmington which has been her residence until this time. Mrs. Collins was one of the pioneers of Clarke County. She was respected as a good mother, friend, and neighbor. Early in life she united with the Anson church and remained a faithful member until she passed to her eternal reward. She had always enjoyed good health, until the late winter, when increasing infirmites necessitated her removal to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Willie Wilson, where all that loving hands could do was done for her comfort and recovery. She passed to Emmanuel's land Sunday, May 11, 1924, age 75 years, 2 mo and 16 da.

She leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Mrs. Willie Wilson, three sisters, Mrs. Cora Fitzpatrick and Mrs. Eliza Smith of Perry, Mo. and Mrs. Jennie Fridley of Brookfield, Mo., two grandsons, Melvin and Eston Wilson, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wilson, besides a number of more distant relatives and a host of friends who knew her and loved her.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternnon at 2:00 o;clock at the Anson Communtiy church, Rev. Paul P. Jackson the pastor officiating. Interment was made in Anson Cemetery.
