Joseph Rittner Folker was born in Liverpool, PA, Feb 8 1836, the son of George W and Elizabeth Folker, he being of a family of nine children, seven brothers and two sisters, all of whom have preceded him to the great beyond, except one brother, Cyrus N., and one sister Mrs. Mary Huggins, of Farmington, IA. In his early boyhood the family emigrated to Van Buren County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. In the early sixties he crossed the plains to Nevada and spent a number of years in the mining business, then returning to Clark County, MO.

At the home of his brother, George Jr., one mile south of Acasto, on Jan 9, 1868, he was united in marriage with Hannah Ross and to this union were born seven children, namely: Mrs. Alice Heath, Fred E., Mrs. Zenna Willits, of Farmington, IA, John C. of Waterloo, Iowa, Mrs. Ora Hassler, Rock Island, Ill, Mrs Lillian Willits and Miss Gertrude of Acasto, MO. all of whom survive together with eleven grandchildren.

In 1868 he and his newly wedded wife moved to the home which they have continuously occupied till his death, which occured March 29, 1920 at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 21 days.

Funeral at Acasto church on Wednesday at 2 pm by Rev. H. G. Smith. The singers were Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Hoffman, W. M. McIntosh and Herman Miller.
