Naoma M.Atkins whose maiden name was Lank, was born in Delaware, December 22, 1822 and departed this life in Milton Iowa, February 8, 1904, aged 81 years, 1 month and 17 days.
She was married to K.B. Atkins in 1840 with whom she lived over 60 years; he having died in May of 1901. Of this union there were 13 children, ten of whom still survive. In 1843 she came with her husband to Davis County Iowa, which was then the far west. With the exception of one years residence in Illinois they lived in the same section of the state where they settled in 1843. Sister Atkins was a true helpmate for her husband, sharing the toils and hardships of making a home in an uncultivated land.
Since the death of Brother Atkins, Sister Atkins has lived most of the time at the old homestead. Her children were very glad to have her remain with them whenever she would but to her, there was no place like home”. For many years, Sister Atkins has been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She passed away in the triumph of a living faith.
