Kendle B. Atkins
Kendle B. Atkins was born in Sussex County Delaware, October 18, 1820, and died at his home in Milton Iowa, May l, 1901, being in the 81st year of his age.
He was married to Miss Naoma Lank, December 17, 1840 and to this union was born twelve children, nine of whom are still living, three of them—two boys and a girl having preceded him in death. The living who mourn him are his wife, J.B. (James Benjamin); D.C. (David Cornelius); J.W. (John W.); George; and Mrs. Asa (Mary Jane) Hale of this place; W.H. (William H.) of Unionville Missouri; Josiah H. of Nebraska; Peter; Charles of Oregon.
He moved from Delaware to Davis County Iowa in 1843, nine years later he moved from Iowa to Illinois, remaining there but one year then back to Davis County. About 1885 he came to Milton and has since resided here.
He was one of our oldest settlers, settling here on what was the uncultivated prairie and endured the hardships of the pioneer life.
Mr. Atkins united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1840, being a member nearly 61 years, and was a true follower of his Master, attending church service when health permitted attendance. He was held in highest esteem by all who knew him. The interment took place last Thursday in the old cemetery northwest of town. The sympathy of friends reaches out to the family.
(I am not related to the subject.)
