Mary Elizabeth Kays, daughter of Martin and Mary Jane Kays, was born near Newton, New Jersey, August 22, 1857 and passed away at Milton Iowa, July, 24, 1934 at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 2 days.
She was the youngest of five chldren, all of whom have preceded her in death. When she was six months old the family moved from New Jersey to Iowa, settling at Keosauqua. Five years later they moved to Milton, where she lived the remainder of her life.
In September, 1900, she was married to William H. Craven, with whom she lived until his death in the fall of 1918. Mrs. Craven was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church since childhood and her chief interests in life were her church and home,to which she was ever faithful. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and at one time served her chapter as Worthy Matron.
She leaves the following relatives:three nephews; Will Kays, Milton Iowa, Leland and Raymond Kays of Ellensburg Washington; two nieces, Mrs Clarence Tatman of Bloomfield Iowa and Mrs, Jesse Bell of Milton; two step daughters, Mabel Craven of Milton and Letha Craven of Ottumwa Iowa.
A little more than a year ago, due to infirmities of health, she came to live with her niece, Mrs. Jesse Bell, at whose home she passed away quietly Wednesday evening. I am not related and am posting this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
